asema

The train station. Helsinki Central Station is Helsingin päärautatieasema in Finnish.
laituri
/ˈlɑi̯turi/“platform”
Where you wait for your train. Check the departure boards for laituri numbers.
Types of Trains
pikajuna
/ˈpikɑˌjunɑ/“express train”
A fast train with fewer stops, ideal for long-distance travel between major cities.
lähijuna
/ˈlæhiˌjunɑ/“commuter train”

pendolino

matkakortti

aikataulu
/ˈɑi̯kɑˌtɑu̯lu/“timetable”
The train schedule. Check it for lähtöajat (departure times) and saapumisajat (arrival times).
On the Train
vaunu
/ˈʋɑu̯nu/“carriage”
The individual train car. Your ticket may specify a vaununumero (carriage number).
istumapaikka
/ˈistumɑˌpɑi̯kːɑ/“seat”
Your assigned seat. Look for the paikkakortti (seat reservation ticket) if you’ve booked one.
ravintolavaunu
/ˈrɑʋintolɑˌʋɑu̯nu/“restaurant car”
The dining car, where you can buy snacks and drinks.
